Ministerial Appointment Hearing 2025: Unanimous Approval Across the Board

Each pitch presented by the ministerial nominees was followed by a final vote where the President, Vice-President and the House of Representatives expressed either their support or dissent for the nominee. A ministerial nominee requires a minimum of two-thirds majority to be appointed.

If Ashoka can not name this violence, cannot extend protection, cannot speak to the fear held in the bodies of its Kashmiri students as we pack our bags and book rides home, then its claims of inclusive excellence must be questioned. And, if a university does not claim its Kashmiri students in moments of danger, it should not claim them in its diversity brochures either.

Giya Sood (UG '27) and Madiha Tariq (UG '27) report on the Presidential Debate which took place on 2nd May 2025. It was hosted by the Ashoka University Election Commission (AUEC) and The Edict.
Presidential candidates Insha Husain (UG ‘26) and Ahana Walanju (UG ‘26) from the United Students Front (USF), as well as the independent candidates Swapnanil Mukherjee (UG ‘26) and Swayam Nath (UG ‘26), presented their agendas and answered questions about their manifestos.


“No political association”: Registrar’s office issues new undertaking to candidates
Somansh Sarangi (UG '26) and Fatema Tambawalla (UG '27) report on the new undertaking issued by the Registrar. This document requires students to declare that they are “not currently a member of or in association with any political party or organization.”
