Ashoka to Mediate Negotiations between Protesting Housekeeping Workers & BluSpring: Registrar to Represent University Administration

Updated: Sep 3

On the morning of 2nd September 2025, Vice-Chancellor Somak Raychaudhury assured that Ashoka University would have a discussion between the Bluspring executives and protesting workers at 3 pm today, a source told The Edict. The meeting will be mediated by Mr. Sachin Sharma, the Registrar, on behalf of the administration, and will have ten representatives of the housekeeping staff along with four faculty members. The CEO of Bluspring Enterprises will also be present.

Two representatives from Bluspring also spoke to the protesting body this morning, agreeing to speak with them inside campus. This is the first time the administration has agreed to any form of communication after five days of continuous protest with workers and students sleeping outside Gate 1, fighting for their 3 demands.

A worker feels hopeful about the meeting, telling The Edict, “we don’t know how much things will improve, but we’re sure we’ll receive some benefit from the meeting.”

Another worker expresses frustration towards the prolonged silence of the administration, “if they really considered us ‘family’ they would have offered us water and allowed our kids shelter from the rain.”

An AUSG Councilor tells The Edict that “admin has faced pressure from students and faculty, there is hope now that the negotiations will take a positive direction.”

Adv. Kapil Balyan, legal counsel assisting the protesting workers, believes that the success of the movement depends on the strength of protesters outside. More numbers will increase the pressure on the administration, “From what I can see, the protest is quite strong. I am optimistic that negotiations will yield a positive result,” he says.

The Edict approached the administration comment, but could not get in touch with Mr. Sharma.  Mr. Sanjay Gehlot, the Assistant Registrar, provided no comment.
