The final day of Agneepath 7.0 delivered drama, heartbreak and joy aplenty.
The Ashoka Red teams won gold in women’s football, women’s badminton, men’s cricket, tennis and chess, while there were silvers for men’s football (Blue), women’s basketball, men’s badminton, squash (all Red) and pool, and bronze in shooting.
The women’s badminton team had a Sunday to remember, sweeping Shiv Nadar University 3-0 in the semifinal and then beating longtime rivals, OP Jindal Global University, 3-1 in the final to clinch gold. Meanwhile, the women’s football Red team came from behind to beat BML Munjal 2-1, winning their second gold of the academic year. They had routed Ashoka Blue 4-0 earlier in the day.
The men’s cricket Red team won their first-ever gold in some style. They overcame Masters Union in a dramatic semifinal super over, before leisurely beating SNU by 68 runs in the final.
The tennis final saw Ashoka Red beat Manipal University Jaipur 3-2. MUJ had earlier knocked out Blue in the first semifinal, while Red beat the Alums in the second semifinal.
The men’s football teams suffered twin heartbreaks on Sunday, with the Red team losing to the Blue team 1-1 (1-3) in an upset for the ages in the semifinals, before Blue were beaten by the Alumni 0-0 (4-3) on penalties in the final.
The women’s basketball (Red) team and men’s badminton (Red) team had to settle for silver, beating Jindal (50-40) and Sharda (3-0) in the semifinals, before succumbing to Lady Sri Ram College (11-42) and Sports University of Haryana (3-1) in the final. There were also silvers for squash (v SNU) and pool (v BML Munjal).
The chess team won gold against BITS Pilani. Shooting team captain Advay Awasthy won bronze in the individual heats.
Sunday also saw semifinal losses for men’s volleyball (v BML Munjal), men’s basketball (v SNU), men’s table tennis (v BML Munjal) and women’s table tennis (v SNU).
That marks the official end of Agneepath 7.0. Thank you for following us on Edict Sports. See you again next year!
