Heading: Shiuli Biswas appointed as New Head of Residence Life
On 9th October, 2025, the Dean of Student’s Affairs, Dr. Dheeraj Sanghi, announced that Ms. Shiuli Biswas had been appointed as the Head of Residence Life, in an email addressed to the student body.
Biswas had previously worked within the Residence Life Office and Chairman Board of Trustee as Chief of Staff and Director. She had also served as an Non Teaching-Staff Member on the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) in 2023.
In an email correspondence with The Edict, the DSA mentioned that Biswas’s appointment was preceded by the resignation of Director Sunita Bansal. “She [Biswas] is not new and has been looking at Residence life for the last 8-10 months”, the Dr. Sanghi wrote. “The previous director worked closely with her.”
In response to the question of Residence Life Office’s policy towards student community engagement, Dr. Sanghi stated that changes should be expected from both leadership transitions and evolving circumstances “because our context is changing over time. The number of students is increasing, their expectations of all stakeholders are changing and technology is changing.” Dr. Sanghi stated.
Looking towards Biswas’s engagement with the students, Dr. Sanghi indicated that she would prioritize communications with the students to maximize residence life satisfaction. “She will be open to meeting students, listening to their suggestions and ensuring that they continue to get the best Residence Life experience.” Dr. Sanghi wrote.
Ahana Walanju (UG ‘26), Vice-President of Ashoka University Student Government (AUSG), in an interview with The Edict, said that the AUSG was not formally notified of the appointment.
Furthermore, from her previous interactions with Biswas, she added, “she [Biswas] seems to be receptive to the alternate solutions and recommendations.”
“However, even though she lifted the QR entry/exit ban after the DSA told her to do so, her stance about similar escalations in times of violations have remained somewhat similar and aligned to the existing Reslife policies," she continued.
However, she acknowledged limited direct engagement with Biswas in her new capacity, and added, “she does seem to at least be responsive and upfront about certain administrative decisions.” [Edited by Sahana Radhakrishnan & Giya Sood] [Fact-checked by Sahana Radhakrishnan]
