AUSG Launches New “RTI Portal”, Releases Monthly Report for October

On Monday, November 24th, 2025, the Ashoka University Student Government (AUSG) announced via email the creation of a new RTI portal on its website. Addressed to the entire student body, the email explained that the portal—a joint initiative by the Public Relations Department and the Ministry of Technology—aims to enhance transparency and “ensures that every student has a clear and accessible channel to seek information from the SG.”

The portal guarantees a response within 3 days on the applicant’s Ashoka email if an email ID is provided, or within 4 days on the AUSG Public Information Drive in the case of anonymous submissions. The RTI application form also permits a choice between “standard timeline” (10 working days) and “urgent timeline”, with the latter requiring a valid reason for the expedited request. The RTI applications will be forwarded to the concerned SG members, though the overall functioning of the platform has been placed under the purview of the Ministry of Technology.

The RTI policy draws from the AUSG Bill of Rights, which reads - “Students’ right to secure access to information under the control of administrative authorities or the Student Government […] shall not be infringed,” exempting only “matters of a sensitive/confidential nature”. The introduction of the RTI portal comes in the wake of criticism from the Ashoka University Election Commission (AUEC) earlier this semester on AUSG transparency. In October, the AUEC expressed concern over what it termed “a lack of timely and transparent communication” from the AUSG, and serious lapses in the budget release and approval process.

In the same email, the AUSG also released its monthly report for October 2025, detailing the work done last month as well as future plans. The Sports Ministry announced the finalisation of training timings for the non cis-men’s cricket team, and the procurement of disability-friendly sports equipment (such as sound balls). They also conducted an audit to determine “safety and usability” of gym equipment.

According to the report, The Environment Ministry focused on waste management, with segregated bins set up at Residence Halls and event venues. The Ministry of Technology (TechMin) unveiled a new, “revamped” student government platform, following a successful beta testing phase. They also announced plans for a “digitization of the sports inventory” with the intention of changing the equipment allocation system to operating on QR codes instead of physical ID deposit. The intention is to “reduce losses and streamline sports operations.” The TechMin also announced plans for a new service called “AshokanAround”, designed to help students connect with peers in different cities and receive assistance when looking for internships and job opportunities.

The Campus Life Ministry announced that subsidised N-95 masks have now been made available at the tuck shop, in addition to the sprinklers around campus, in order to combat pollution. The ministry also promises to “continue pushing for air purifiers in all classrooms” with placement “already underway” in exam rooms. Additionally, the laundry drop off time has been extended to 3 p.m. on the new campus.
